Many random thoughts went through my head as I sat in the audience of Xanadu tonighf

Firstly, why does a stage musical about ancient Greek muses on rollerskates in 1980s Venice Beach work? There is no logical answer to that. You just have to sit back and enjoy the ride. I also wondered if sitting in the front row when the performers are on rollerskates is a wise choice. This is not a show where you think "break a leg" is an appropriate pre show message. Fortunately, no performers or audience members were injured in the creation of this show. But randomly I thought about my very brief skating experience in or around 1980. I was a terrible skater and spent most of the sessions pretty much wall hugging or desparately trying to get back to the wall. My mother later confessed she watched on in genuine fear, mostly because she could see myself breaking all the teeth that had just gone through a long and expensive orthodontic process. Luckily for her and my teeth I wasn't good enough to inflict any real damage. Safe to say, if they remount Xanadu, I shall not be auditioning
