June 1. Day 43. Cold shoulder

Winter!
Are you kidding me? Today the weather was divine.
Warm, calm, clear. Not a breath of wind. It was paradise. This is what living the dream looks like.
I always said, I'd retire to the beach but I'm not sure I believed it. But sometimes dreams come true. Bribie Island might not be everyone's idea of a lifestyle choice but it works for me. Close to Brisbane for theatre, family and medical stuff but right on the beach. And of course a dog off leash area. That's all I need. Happy as ...

May 31. Day 42. Anywhere ....

There's not much you need to put on theatre (technically as least). At its rawest, all you need is a performer and an audience member. The theatre is the story. Sets, props, costumes and a stage can help tell the story but technically window dressing.

Which is why the Anywhere Theatre Festival is such a good idea. It takes theatre and performs it anywhere. A story set in a pub might be performed in a pub. Same deal with a church,  a private home or a shop.

These are site specific but it might not be. It might just be an available space with room for a performer and an audience. Tonight's Anywhere Theatre Show was in a gin distillery. The Middle Room was set in a family home but there was enough of the domestic to create the illusion ... it was awesome. It was also the very last show of the festival. Safe to say the festival finished with a bang

May 30. Day 41. Curtain Call

There's this debate going on online about whether or not it's okay to film the curtain call of a show. Personally, I think it's fine unless you are instructed not to or the content of the performance is such that it would be obviously disrespectful to whip out your phones

May 29. Day 40. Unhinged

If you live in Brisbane, you know the wicked winds come in August in time for the exhibition.

The weather gods seem to have forgotten this because today, in May, there was real fury in the gusts.

The gales were enough to blow to door off our rubbish bin shed. Fortunately no-one was standing close enough to get hurt.
In the end, I'm not precious enough to need either my rubbish or my bins to be kept under lock and key. However, having a place to secure them can be pretty useful.

I guess that's a job for a handyman because our combined DIY skills are zero. But I'll wait until the wind speed drops which will hopefully be well before August.

May 28. Day 39. Magic mushrooms

It was a bit of an Alice in Wonderland morning where it feels like I've taken magic mushrooms or crawled through a tiny door to another dimension.

Okay, I exaggerate ... but only a bit. I had a meeting with Centrelink and these never fail to totally do my head in.

Centrelink is a mystical place where normal conventions don't seem to apply and the characters around seem to have been drawn from a fantasy novel or horror story or both.

But today, finally, I think the tragic case of the suspended disability support pension may have been solved. For now. Fingers crossed.

May 27. Day 38. Origin story

It is theoretically possible that I am the only person in Queensland who doesn't like State of Origin football.

To be fair, I don't really like football of any code at any level but of all the competitions, the annual Queensland versus New South Wales slugfest is my least favourite.

Basically, it's the hysteria that goes with it that drives me mad. Premiers promising to fly the opposition's flag from a bridge if their team loses the three game competition.

All this talk about the state's pride being on the line and the State against State, Mate against Mate narrative. What utter nonsense. It's a football match.

So every year I find something else to do, anything else to do. Tonight I changed the bed linen.

In any event, I feel there is no escaping it. Someone, somewhere in the house will be watching and their reactions will carry to even the most conscientious objector.

We lost. I don't care. Yay me.

May 26. Day 37. Rain, rain go away

If there are weather gods (plural), today they were like squabbling siblings. One wanter torrential rain, another wanted clear skies and they kept battling it out to achieve dominance.

If it looked clear enough to embark on a walk, the rain would start again in earnest before I had time to grab the lead.

During one particularly unpleasant downpour, I simply went to bed. The dogs followed because they are good like that.

We didn't get to the beach but we did get a big walk around the block and we got home without getting wet so yay us.

A few rounds of hall ball supplemented the walk to help wear Kodak out.

Tomorrow, with luck, we will be back on the sand even if it means me wearing a raincoat
