Day 12. May 1. Welcome

It is perplexing and more than a little sad, that Welcome to Country celebrations have become a symbol of division in this country.

Indeed, the lowest point of the recent Anzac Day commemorations was people booing at the Welcome to Country.

Exactly why people would think this is appropriate is beyond me.

It shines a light on a serious race problem.  one of the things that can bring unity is music and tonight was a celebration of that.

The Sapphires is a sparkling gem of a show taking the audience on a journey into Vietnam with a first nations girl group in the 1960s.

The true story was written by Tony Briggs, whose mother was an original Sapphire and while its been around for 25 years, this is the first time the stage production has hit Brisbane. It was worth the wait. Opening night audiences are always generous with their applause but you can't fake warmth. The atmosphere in the theatre was like a hug. And the embrace continued. with the food and booze in the courtyard afterwards. This is what a welcome should feel like.

May 5. Day 16. Reflections of me

They say pets come to look like their owners or vice versa.
